Member Countries

Its membership comprises all ECOWAS countries (Benin, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea- Bissau, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Togo) plus Mauritania. As an initiative created by and for West African countries, it is driven by the needs of its members and strongly rooted in the sub-region

The initiative of creating the West African Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance has been launched in Marrakech, during COP 22 in 2016. But the Alliance is officially constituted by resolution of the first meeting of founding members dated on june 30, 2017 in Cotonou, during the Africa Carbon Forum


‘This project is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag.’
